BEGINNING OF EACH 9 WEEKS:

At the beginning of each 9 weeks, I will send home a document listing each of the “I CAN” statements your child is responsible for learning this year. Please sign the bottom left box.

END OF EACH 9 WEEKS:

At the end of each of the 9 weeks, you will receive that same paper listing the “I CAN” statements and how your child is doing with each so you are aware of where they stand with each of the standards they are responsible for.

Math Binder

Each student will have a math binder that will stay in my room. This binder will be divided in to the 5 areas of Math and will include how students are progressing in the curriculum. All I CAN sheets will be included in this binder as well as all assessments/tests that occur during the year.

REDO ON ASSESSMENTS and “OOOPS Folders”

Students will be required to retake any assessment that scores below an 70% the following week. I will send home an “OOOPS Folder” that will have additional work to practice on the tested area.  The completed “OOOPS Folder” is their ticket to retake the test to improve their grade. This allows them to practice skills they didn’t understand, and grasp the concepts in a broken down manner.

Corrections

Any weekly work in your child’s Friday Folder that is graded 70 % or below will need to be corrected and returned on Monday.

Multiplication Facts

Students will be assessed on their fact recall of the multiplication facts 0-12 throughout the year. Please keep these fresh on students’ minds from 3rd grade by reviewing them for 5 minutes 2-3 times a week. Multiplication fact recall is so critical to the units students will work on in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th 9 weeks.

MATH FLUENCY FOLDERS

Students will have a Math Fluency Folder every other week that will help build their fact and computation fluency. It will come home on Monday and will need to be turned in on Friday.

EngageNY (Engage New York)

Engage NY is the Math program that we are using here at NCES. If your child attended NCES for 3rd grade you are probably familiar with the format. I will try to utilize our Facebook page to post the links for homework help. I will be supplementing the EngageNY curriculum with other reinforcement so that the students have a variety of ways to practice the skill.
