4th Grade Math Information Sheet
Welcome to 4th grade Math! I am so excited about this year. My goal for this is to make math fun for you and help each child learn as much as they possibly can. Math is everywhere in our daily life. This information sheet includes very important information that I want each parent, guardian, and child to be aware of.

BEGINNING OF EACH 9 WEEKS:
At the beginning of each 9 weeks, I will send home a document listing each of the “I CAN” statements your child is responsible for learning this year.
END OF EACH 9 WEEKS:
At the end of each of the 9 weeks, you will receive that same paper listing the “I CAN” statements and how your child is doing with each so you are aware of where they stand with each of the standards they are responsible for.
NEW FOR THIS YEAR
Calendar Math
This year I will be implementing Calendar Math. Each class will begin with students completing a sheet that will reinforce, daily, skills that students commonly struggle with in Math. This will not be typical of calendar math students may remember from kindergarten. We will create a number of the day based on the date and students will have different tasks to complete with that number.
Math Binder
Each student will have a math binder that will stay in my room. This binder will be divided in to the 5 areas of Math and will include how students are progressing in the curriculum. They will have an “I CAN” sheet for each unit and it will be a work in progress. Occasionally, this may be sent home for you to review.
Centers
We will begin centers this year for students to rotate through to reinforce the standard we are working on. This will also give me an opportunity to work your child one on one, or in a small group setting, when they are struggling with a concept.
Corrections
Any work in your child’s Friday Folder that is graded and has mistakes on it will need to be corrected and returned on Monday. Students will receive a partial credit grade for corrected work.
Multiplication Facts
Students will be assessed on their fact recall of the multiplication facts 0-12 throughout the year. Please keep these fresh on students’ minds from 3rd grade by reviewing them for 5 minutes 2-3 times a week. Multiplication fact recall is so critical to the units students will work on in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th 9 weeks.
